Why people hate the police
Could anyone be so stupid?I have a lot of words to describe Officer Robert Powell of the Dallas Police Department, but I can’t use them. Graphic language is not allowed in these blogs.
Instead I will be diplomatic and show more class than this cretin.
If you don’t know already, Powell is the man – and I use this term in the loosest of forms – who stopped and detained Houston running back Ryan Moats from seeing his dying mother-in-law.
Fortunately, Moats’ wife was able to enter the hospital and be by her mother’s side when she passed away. However, Moats wasn’t given that kind of courtesy.
Powell ignored pleas from an attending nurse, two security guards and another officer to let Moats enter the hospital.
Here is a little of the exchange:
MOATS: "YOU REALLY WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS RIGHT NOW? MY MOTHER-IN-LAW IS DYING. RIGHT NOW!... I GOT SECONDS BEFORE SHE'S DYING, MAN!"
POWELL: "IF MY MOM WAS DYING, I'D PROBABLY BE A LITTLE UPSET, TOO, BUT WHEN I SAW FLASHING RED AND BLUE [LIGHTS], I'D STOP."
MOATS: "IF YOU'RE GOING TO GIVE ME A TICKET, JUST GIVE ME A TICKET.... ALL I'M ASKING YOU IS JUST HURRY UP."
POWELL: "... I COULD CHARGE YOU WITH FLEEING RIGHT NOW. UNDERSTAND WHAT I COULD DO.... I COULD MAKE YOUR LIFE VERY DIFFICULT."
I’m surprised the words “Boy” or the most-hated of words didn’t come out of Powell’s mouth during the exchange, for Powell is the lowest form of life.
Powell seems to be one of those kinds of law-enforcement officials that gets a cheap thrill out of being a bully. A badge and a gun gives him power – and he isn’t afraid to misuse it!
Worse yet, it might be a case of racial profiling. Moats is a wealthy, African-American male and Powell is white cop with a serious power trip. As a victim of racial profiling, I immediately felt the pain – and I’m nowhere near rich!
Let’s get real. Class valedictorians don’t become cops! Bullies usually become cops. Gun nuts and ex-military usually become cops. People who are power-hungry usually become cops, and on occasion, white supremacists.
This is why people don't trust cops. Serve and protect usually means harass and bully. People like Powell are why many people, especially minorities, hate cops.
A suspension is nowhere near enough for this piece of trash. Nothing short of termination and a possible lawsuit against Powell would do – and that might not be good enough.
To paraphrase Powell’s own words, his life should be made very difficult. Very difficult.

This guy doesn’t deserve to wear a badge; but you really should tread a bit more lightly:

NOW who’s stereotyping? You’ve just perpetuated a few myths of your own with these statements, Mr. Singleton, and helped to ensure the hatred good officers must endure from the abuses of the bad. As if their job wasn’t hard enough, let alone finding quality people who are willing to take on the challenge. Who’d want to be so reviled? Thanks for that. You have a position of responsibility, here, and while your rightoeus indignation is understandable, it doesn’t grant you license to trash ALL men & women who wear the uniform to satisfy your personal agenda. You might as well have titled this piece why YOU hate cops for all the sense it makes. Bullies don’t always need a gun & a badge - sometimes, a keyboard & a forum do just fine.
