Why not “fall back” on Sunday night?
As you are aware by now, the "Energy Policy Act of 2005" was enacted by the Bush Administration to extend daylight saving time a week as an effort to save energy. Supposedly, it really does save energy, but I say let's save even more energy by moving it back another 24 hours to Monday morning at 2am? Why you may ask? Please continue.I think we all enjoy the idea of getting that extra hour of sleep each year when the time comes to "fall back" (or turn back time as Cher would say), but who really needs an extra hour of sleep on Saturday night? While it does benefit those (like me) who go to church on Sunday, church doesn't start until 9 or 10 o'clock at the earliest for most of us. Personally, I can live without that hour of sleep. I say let's wait until Sunday night (technically 2am Monday) before setting the clocks back. This would give us all an extra hour of sleep to kick off a new work week which could exponentially increase productivity in the workplace and might just jump start our entire economy and end the housing crisis. Ok, that might be a stretch, but I bet it would come closer than an extra hour of sleep on a random Saturday night in November.
And while we're at it, why not also change the "spring forward" time from 2am on the second Sunday of March to, I don't know, noon on the second Monday of March? We all hate Mondays, so why not shorten our least favorite workday by an hour rather lose an hour from our coveted weekend? I can't be the only one who has ever had these thoughts. If you feel the way I do, let me know, but more importantly, let your congressman know!!
