Question: How many olympic sized swimming pools could the oil leaked into the Gulf of Mexico fill?

Answer: 128.

Explanation: Estimates are all over the place as to the exact amount of oil, but one of the higher estimates I came across from an independent source not related to BP was about 77 million gallons as of Thursday afternoon. This correlates closely to the 2 million gallon per day end of the estimated 1 to 2 million/day that everyone seems to agree on. An olympic sized pool holds 600,000 gallons of water (I think even BP would agree on that one), so a little simple math tells us that assuming a total leak of 77 million gallons, you could fill up about 128 olympic sized swimming pools with all the oil that is now in the Gulf of Mexico with as much as 220,000 continuing to spew in everyday.
