What Lincoln is Thinkin’ - Week 8

Welcome to Week 8.

One thing we've proven this deep in the season. First week losses mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Four of our the members of our Terrific 13 lost their first game and haven't lost a game since (Hartsville, Conway, Lake View, and Wilson). Two other teams (Marlboro, Cheraw) are considered some of the top teams in the state, and also lost their first game. Those six teams all are in the chase for a state title after starting out with a loss. That says a lot about the head coaches being able to keep their players from dwelling on Week 1.

The luck has run out for West Florence. The old saying says it's better to be good than to be lucky. But West Flo's not enough of either to run with the Big Boys.

Two local teams destroyed undefeated Columbia area teams this week... Lamar over Scott's Branch and Marlboro County over Crestwood. Just again goes to show you where the best high school football in South Carolina hails from.

This week, the Throwdown at Kelleytown... Conway at Hartsville, proves to be one of the best games of the year. All due respect to freshman Everett Golson at Myrtle Beach, but in my mind the two best quarterbacks in Eastern South Carolina will duke it out in what should be a pretty high scoring game. Conway has not been challenged at all since their opening week loss against Myrtle Beach (except for the first half vs. Socastee), to the point that their starters have spent most of the second halves on the bench. Meanwhile, Hartsville looked a bit off after the bye week against Spring Valley, hopefully they'll be ready to go Friday.

Prediction- I like Conway's defense more than the Red Foxes... When two high-scoring teams play, go with the team that has had more luck stopping other teams... and that's the Tigers.

Elsewhere, North Myrtle Beach needs to find some offense in order to beat Socastee on Friday. Against St. James, they had two touchdowns, one on a INT return, the other one was scored after an INT was brought back inside the 10. The Chiefs have a great defense. But if the Sharks can stop their O, then I don't like their chances against the Braves.

Prediction - Socastee... in a very low-scoring affair.

I really, really, really want the Wilson-Marlboro game to be for all the marbles next week so...

Prediction- I'll take Wilson over Crestwood, but the Tigers will definitely have a fight on their hands.

Prediction- West Florence is struggling hard right now... They won't win at Sumter.

Prediction - Lake City's offense continues to get worse as the season goes on... Darlington has struggled this year at times, but have shown that they have the toughness to win close games. This one should definitely be close, so I'm taking the Falcons.

Disagree? Tell me what you're thinkin'.

Hartsville makes it by Conway.......38-35.......Too much Will Newsome to Jordan Lyles for Conway to handle…

Conway will have to score at least 40 points to top Hartsville at home after a close game with Spring Valley last week........

JORDAN LYLES FOR MVP!!!!

lincoln, wilson will win IF the defense can stop the run and page decides to actually run the ball down crestwood throat, IF he can bring himself to trust his backs (green and brunson)

Too much of that Tiger D for Hartsville to handle.

BTW, Lyles is having an unbelievable season, but like I said in my mid-season awards, if I’m giving out an MVP right now, it’s Newsome.

Wilson will run the ball enough… Coach Page has the tape from Marlboro’s thumping of the Knights last week.  Crestwood is good, but nothing that Wilson can’t handle.

It’s gonna be a good game thats for sure!!! I hope you aren’t right about that Tiger D though!!!

The Tiger D better watch out for Bennett Saunders also!!!

Wil Newsome is having a great year, but I still believe Jordan should be MVP......Maybe Co-MVP’s!!!! = )

I took this quote from The State Newspaper article yesterday about Jordan!!!!

“After scoring three touchdowns among his nine catches for 160 yards in Friday night’s 34-27 win at Spring Valley, Lyles has 47 receptions with 889 yards. No receiver in the state has more of either, and it is a big reason the Red Foxes are 6-1.”

What is the deal of not ever showing the Chesterfield rams on the blitz. nothing is ever said about them.  you always mention the cheraw braves. chesterfield did beat cheraw this season we have a great team and wonderful turnout at every game.  we have only lost 2 games this season with only 2 games left in the regular season. sure for playoffs and most likely state championship.  Remember cheraw is in chesterfield county.  Ellen Crowley
