What Lincoln is Thinkin’ - Week 5
Welcome back to another edition of What Lincoln is Thinkin'.Really no upsets whatsoever in the past week. The only team in our Terrific 13 to falter was Chesterfield... and they've plummeted from #2 to #10 in the rankings.
But there was a few big wins. A lot of times you can't judge a lot from a blowout.. but a handful of good teams impressed by slaughtering worthy adversaries. Lake View is certainly coming into its own after blasting Green Sea-Floyds. I spent Thursday at the Wild Gators' Walkthrough, and I thought they looked focused and ready for a team that had surprised a few others to start the year. 42-0... Trojans, thanks for playing. Gators, get ready for a tough trip to Johnsonville... the 2-2 Flashes haven't looked great so far this season, but they always play up for LV.
And our Game of the Week was not even close. After losing two of its first three, Cheraw seems to have found its way back to prominence. The Braves slaughtered Marion Friday. RB Travis Small, who hadn't topped 125 yards this year was well over 200. Still, I'd like to see the Braves utilize WR Jaron Brown a lot more. The Braves victory prize? A showdown with Lamar this Friday.
Our Game of the Week this week is Wilson at West Flo. I think during Week 1 when the Tigers were off, Coach Page kicked all the players off of the team, and got all new players for Week 2. Because the team that's blown out SoFlo, Lee Central and St. James in consecutive weeks, is not the inept team I saw against Clover in Week Zero. Meanwhile, the Knights continue to find ways to win, I'm just not sure they've seen as an athletic of an offense as the Tigers have. Upset Special - I like the Tigers.
Another week, another Myrtle Beach blowout. I again witnessed first hand how special Everett Golson and his weapons are. Pencil them in for 10-0. Their rivals to the North struggled offensively again in a 12-7 loss at Marlboro. Sure, that's impressive they had a chance to win it in the end. But you don't deserve to win a game you score just 7 points in. The Chiefs will fall under .500 this week after they lose at Crestwood.
Carolina Forest beat up another bottom feeder, destroying Andrews. But now it's big boy football time as they play Conway this week. The Tigers haven't hit on all cylinders quite yet... by 37 points in the first half against Georgetown was a good step. The Panthers are a playoff team, but they're not in Conway's league.
Some great games in Week 5 before most teams start Region play. Who do you think is facing a must-win this week? Let me know what you're thinkin'!
