What Lincoln is Thinkin’ - Week 10

First off,

I, like everybody, am totally shocked about the Hartsville-West Florence game. The Knights had been tanking... coming in with three straight losses after five straight wins. Hartsville obviously still had that hangover after losing to Conway... the Red Foxes had not scored fewer that four touchdowns all season long. Somehow, the Knights kept them to just three points. To take a line from one of my favorite movies Supertroopers: "Desperation is a stinky cologne", but for the desperate Knights, all was sweet Friday Night. Now the desperation shifts to the Red Foxes, who have to beat Sumter next week for a spot in the playoffs.

Big-ups go to St. James, for finally putting everything together against Socastee. The sharks had played well offensively and defensively at times this year, but never at the same time. All that being said, they almost blew a 21-0 lead... but lucky for them, Socastee missed the game-tying extra point with under 30 seconds left. As for the Braves, it doesn't effect them that much. If they beat Myrtle Beach Friday, they're still Region champs.

Dillon is unbelievable. I don't think that any other AA team in the state can match their speed. I worry though that they haven't played great competition since losing to Myrtle Beach in Week 3. In the Cats other 8 games, all wins, they've given up a combined 13 points. Ridiculous.

Games this week:

There's no question this is not Chuck Jordan's most talented team at Conway. But they showed serious guts in beating Hartsville two weeks ago. Then this past week, they struggled at the start against a feisty and improving South Florence team, but managed to blow them out at the end. I think they're fighting with a chip on their shoulder because of that opening week loss, and I think Northeast Richland exposed Sumter last week. I'll take Conway over the Gamecocks.

Hemingway quarterback Denzel Wedgeworth is the most underrated signal-caller in the area. This week's game is their most important game of the year... they've got a chance at a share of the region title. Lake View has won 8 straight games, but they've got a looooong road trip, and they're on a short week because they had to play Cross last Saturday. I like Hemingway in an upset.

Chesterfield and McBee have a battle for third place on their hands. Both have fallen to the top teams in the region - Lewisville and Great Falls. Chesterfield lost those two games by a combined 15 points. McBee has lost those games by a combined 45 points. Therefore, I like Chesterfield, even though it's at McBee, and the Golden Rams are 1-3 on the road.

Marion has its playoff future in its own hands. Beat Mullins and they're in, lose and they're probably out. No kind of motivation like that, you've got to go with Marion.

Finally a game with a home playoff game on the line - I like Waccamaw over Kingstree, because of stud running back Eric Sparkman.
