What Lincoln is Thinkin’ - Proving Ground
What Lincoln is Thinkin' - Proving GroundTeam: Chesterfield WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: They are the team to beat in Class A Chesterfield has been smokin' this season and are currently ranked as the best team in the state. They were able to sneak into Cheraw last week and come away with a win. But if they can beat the Class AA state champions two years in a row, they will cement themselves as THE best team in the state in Class A.
Team: Dillon WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: This year's team is better than last year's team. Few people really expect Dillon to beat Myrtle Beach in the opening game at the new Doug Shaw Stadium. Coach Jackie Hayes is still looking for his first state title in Dillon, and with so many great teams in AA this year, few believe that this will be the year. But, the Wildcats are nothing to sneeze at, and if they can somehow find a way to beat one of the best teams in AAA, then Dillon will put themselves squarely in the spotlight.
Team: Socastee WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: Week one was the fluke, and not week two. Sure West Brunswick is better than they were last year. But the Braves must have been shocked to leave there with a loss. Last week the Braves looked solid in thumping Waccamaw. This week they'll throwdown with Conway. If they can hang in there for three quarters like they did last year, who know what can happen.
Team: Conway WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: They can play a game without killing themselves with mistakes. The Tigers have looked dominant at times this year, but too often they've committed boneheaded penalties and turnovers. The Tigers are 3-0, with a win over Summerville, but Coach Jordan knows his team can be even better.
Team: Hemingway WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: They can pull themselves together after so many injuries. The Tigers have lost seven starters on both sides of the ball. They lost a heart-breaker to St. James last week. They need to heal up in the next few weeks, but also get those second-teamers playing better.
Team: Manning WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: They're better than Timberland Manning doesn't play Timberland this week, but that will be the region showdown that everyone is counting down to. Right now Timberland would be the prohibitive favorite, but if the Monarchs can beat AAA power Crestwood this week, then they become the team to beat.
Team: Lake City WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: They've moved on from the brawl. Wilson had their exclamation point victory in smoking South Florence last week. But the Panthers barely held on to beat East Clarendon. If the Panthers can go on the road and beat rival Kingstree in a hostile environment with a depleted roster, then LC may still have a good year, even if they can't make the playoffs.
Team: Lamar WHAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE: J.R. Boyd has them back at a winning level. It always feels good to beat Timmonsville, but the Silver Foxes are used to blowing out the Whirlwinds. Eight points is a little too close to call. The Foxes need to go out to Darlington and beat a AAA team on the road, to show they have what it takes to make a title run.
What does your team have to prove this week?

I had planned on heading home to C’field tonight. Not going now because of gas prices. It would cost me 75.00 by the time I pay for gas, food and tickets. It’ll be a good one and the place will be packed. Look for Cheraw to try and pound the ball. The Mighty Rams will put on an aerial display. Dang. I hate I’m going to miss it.
