What Lincoln is Thinkin’ - Blitz Week 2
What Lincoln is Thinkin' - Blitz Week 2I'm thinkin' that Latta is for real. The Vikings won four of their first six games in 2008, their first year under Jeff Bley. They're hot again to start 2009, with commanding wins over Aynor and East Clarendon. The Vikings will struggle this weekend with Dillon of course, but D.J. Leggett, DaShawn Bethea and Kendrick Page form the most talented trifecta of players the Vikings have had for a long time. I'm thinkin' 7 wins for Latta this year, and a trip to the playoffs.
I'm thinkin' that Cheraw is going to have trouble turning it around. Their opening week loss to Lamar coupled with a hard-fought 41-26 loss to Marlboro has the Braves 0-2. They're better than 0-2, but they're staring a possible 0-4 start right in the face with Chesterfield and Central coming up after this week's bye. I'm thinkin' no one in the state might need an off-week in Week 2 quite like the Braves.
I'm thinkin' I should have had the cajones to pick South Florence to beat West Florence. I said all fall that I liked the Bruins and I thought they were better than the Knights, but I just could not bring myself to pick them to win. And I can't do it this week either. I'm thinkin' Wilson is so jived to line up against someone not wearing purple and yellow that they'll beat up on SoFlo Friday.
I'm thinkin' Myrtle Beach does not have a prayer against Byrnes. Junior quarterback Everett Golson is fantastic, and I think that last year they could've hung with them, and maybe next year the game would've been close. But this year, the Seahawks just don't have the size on the defensive line to get pressure on the quarterback or stop Marcus Lattimore. I'm thinkin' Myrtle Beach might score four touchdowns, but they're giving up at least six.
I'm thinkin' a team that has really impressed me is Carvers Bay. The Bears lost 23 seniors, and then their best player, Clayton Geathers, to injury. They've quietly beat bigger schools the last two weeks, and looked good doing it. I'm thinkin' that will continue Friday against Mullins.
I'm thinkin' Hemingway vs. St. James is a bigger game for both those teams then outsiders might think. Both teams thought they should be 1-0, and now one of them will be 0-2 by the time the game is over. So it's a must-win for both teams to avoid getting in an early hole. I'm thinkin' St. James will win, in a mild shocker.
I'm thinkin' that Darlington is better than last year. The problem is that their schedule is so difficult, there are not a lot of winnable games. This week they play McBee, one of the most impressive teams over the past two weeks. The Panthers are coming off a throttling of reigning state champion Scott's Branch. I'm thinkin' that the Falcons won't win in McBee, but they will find a way to win four or maybe five games this year, doubling the total of the previous two years.
What are you thinkin' about this week?
