What a day for Lyles

It’s good to be Jordan Lyles these days.
What can you say about the Hartsville standout. He gets to graduate from high school and also get selected in the Major League Baseball draft by the Houston Astros on the same day.
And by the way, he becomes an almost instant millionaire. Lyles got a signing bonus of almost a $1 million for being selected with the 38th pick. Not bad for a kid who won’t turn 18 until October.
Baseball America didn’t even have him in its top 200 prospects so when I saw he had been taken so early I was surprised.
At 6-foot-4, he definitely has the size and will surely put on weight and strength to compete for his shot to earn a spot on a big league roster down the road.
So stay tuned, Lyles’ story is just beginning.

I’m happy for him too. However, baseball is wrong for drafting these kids. They need to go to college and get an education. Don’t get me wrong. I’d do it too if I had the talent.
