Welcome to the big stage

Wednesday gave a lot of the Pee Dee basektball teams and players their first taste of being on the state's biggest stage.
While Mark Gerald has been here before, his players and everyone on Darlington and Marion's rosters were probably at their first major press conferences.
For those who are wondering what goes on, here's a brief breakdown:
For about 15 minutes, the players and coaches of the opposing teams sit down at two tables facing a room of reporters answering questions. Afterwards, they head outside to the SCHSL lawn and face more questions and basically face four or five different media outlets one at time, ranging from sit-down TV interviews to any number of one-on-one talks with reporters.
It's a somewhat new experience, but it also prepares them for Saturday. For football teams, walking on the field at Carolina or Clemson can leave them awestruck, and the same goes for basketball teams at the Colonial Center.
But as I'm sure most of you are aware, they wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
