Veterans Day at St. Anthony’s Catholic School

On Tuesday, Veterans Day, I attended the Veterans Day event at St. Anthony's Catholic School in Florence. While I was there I was able to meet and talk to several veterans from various conflicts. It was nice to sit for a moment and talk with them and hear their stories of service. Everyone I met is proud of their service and in my opinion deserves to be honored for it. It is just as important to not forget those currently serving our country and support them as well. This picture I took is of Air Force veteran Charles Wanner, who served from 1976 to 1983 in the Grenada conflict. This picture is similar to the one that was used in the newspaper and it was a toss up as to which one to use. So here is the other one in black and white. Thank you veterans and active duty military for your service. Morning News/John D. Russell

Somewhat misleading. The Grenada conflict started on October 25, 1983. It lasted until mid December.
The 22d Marine Amphibious Unit was diverted to Grenada while en route to Lebanon. The Marine amphibious unit conducted landings as part of Operation Urgent Fury at Grenada on 25 October and at Carriacou on 1 November.
By 3 November, the Marine amphibious unit was reembarked aboard its amphibious shipping and had resumed its passage to Lebanon.
