Under the Sun: ‘Quantum of Solace’
I saw the latest James Bond film this weekend. They showed the preview for Will Smith’s upcoming movie twice, for some reason.
And sandwiched in between the two “Seven Pounds” previews, they showed the trailer for the next “Star Trek” movie, which is directed by J.J. Abrams (of “Alias,” “Lost” and “Mission Impossible: III” fame.)
It looks promising and very different from any other “Star Trek” movie.
Well, I guess I should actually say a little bit about the movie.
I’m by no means a 007 fan — I think the two Daniel Craig movies are the only ones I’ve seen from beginning to end.
I can tell you more about the music, like Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” or Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die.”
Jack White and Alicia Keyes recorded “Another Way to Die” for the latest movie. I’ve only heard it once, but I wouldn’t mind hearing it again.
The movie was mostly action — chase and fight scenes — but it did have a little bit of a plot building off the last movie.
Because of that, I think it was better than the last Bond film.

I always found James Bond movies about as action packed as Gilligan’s Island…
The Bond character didnt come off to me as a rugged hero type..more like someone from the Accounting Dept..who always wore a suit and tie..
In real life..No way can you kick some serious ass in a suit and tie..thus the reason you never see people fighting at funerals..
I think if they had used characters like John McClane..or Martin Riggs..the movies would have been a huge success..and my childhood would have lacked the torture of having to sit and watch yet another 007 agent do something that the Professor and Mary-Ann would be doing three days later on a deserted island somewhere in the South Pacific..
If not for the sound tracks..the movies would have long been forgotten..by anyone with an I.Q. slightly larger than that of a Butterbean..
So if you missed any of these movies..check with a Dept. Head..no doubt they have the complete collection on DVD by now..
