Under the Sun: ‘Quantum of Solace’

I saw the latest James Bond film this weekend.

They showed the preview for Will Smith’s upcoming movie twice, for some reason.

And sandwiched in between the two “Seven Pounds” previews, they showed the trailer for the next “Star Trek” movie, which is directed by J.J. Abrams (of “Alias,” “Lost” and “Mission Impossible: III” fame.)

It looks promising and very different from any other “Star Trek” movie.

Well, I guess I should actually say a little bit about the movie.

I’m by no means a 007 fan — I think the two Daniel Craig movies are the only ones I’ve seen from beginning to end.

I can tell you more about the music, like Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” or Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die.”

Jack White and Alicia Keyes recorded “Another Way to Die” for the latest movie. I’ve only heard it once, but I wouldn’t mind hearing it again.

The movie was mostly action — chase and fight scenes — but it did have a little bit of a plot building off the last movie.

Because of that, I think it was better than the last Bond film.

I always found James Bond movies about as action packed as Gilligan’s Island…

The Bond character didnt come off to me as a rugged hero type..more like someone from the Accounting Dept..who always wore a suit and tie..

In real life..No way can you kick some serious ass in a suit and tie..thus the reason you never see people fighting at funerals..

I think if they had used characters like John McClane..or Martin Riggs..the movies would have been a huge success..and my childhood would have lacked the torture of having to sit and watch yet another 007 agent do something that the Professor and Mary-Ann would be doing three days later on a deserted island somewhere in the South Pacific..

If not for the sound tracks..the movies would have long been forgotten..by anyone with an I.Q. slightly larger than that of a Butterbean..

So if you missed any of these movies..check with a Dept. Head..no doubt they have the complete collection on DVD by now..wink

Oo! I’m ready to see a trailer on the Will Smith movie.

I agree, Wolfe. I’d rather watch John McClane than Bond, too. Or maybe one of the Bourne movies. I have to admit that, for me, the “Star Trek” preview was the highlight of the evening. I’d already forgotten most of the Bond movie by the next day. Which is probably why I blogged more about the music and the previews. smile

Sorry, Wolf! I didn’t mean to spell your name wrong. I mistook the trademark sign for the letter e. Guess it’s time for another trip to the eye doctor ...

Oh Jaime..dont you go worry about lil things like that..

That symbol just means that Media General registered me with the local Animal Control..They must think I’m gonna bite somebody..smile

That is actually my real first name as listed on my birth certificate..

My parents smoked pot and went to WoodStock..while my grand parents tended to their moonshine still..

I just laid around in a diaper sniffing the fumes..but you can see that it had no long term effect on me..

No long term effect Wolf? I beg to differ friend, but that’s OK. I am starting to think you are really Charlie Walker using a pen name. Or George Carlin from the grave.

You’re much too kind Dave…..I think..wink

Charlie Walker is like 108 years old now and thinks that a hard-drive is any main road in Greeleyville..

George Carlin was a god..I’ll never be that good..

I actually get most of my humor from my dog Nemo..he is quite a character..rather unique too..

Ya’ll would love him…

..he is a cross between a black dog and….another black dog..smile

See…no long term effects..just a bunch of lil short ones..

You have to watch out for that white lighting, Wolf! smile

Jamie, you mentioned the Bourne movies. Those are awesome. The earlier Bonds wouldn’t have stood a chance against Jason Bourne, but this new Bond. He could give Jason a fight.

Bourne’s pretty quick, but this new Bond doesn’t seem to care if he lives or dies.

That’s pretty dangerous.

Hey, Nick,
Those were good movies, weren’t they? I get what you’re saying about Bond, but I think Bourne would come out the winner of that fight.
