Under the Sun: Keeping in touch with family

I found out a few days ago that my Uncle Alan sometimes reads my blog. I didn’t know he even knew I had a blog.

I was just happy to find out someone besides my coworkers, Mr. Mookie, Wolf and the occasional Dwight Dana fan reads my blog.

Anyway, my uncle said I wrote about everything under the sun.

I’m not a reporter, so I don’t have a subject or beat to focus on. I just write about whatever strikes my fancy.

I think I’ll start calling my blog Under the Sun. It’s not as catchy as Lyra’s Morning Buzz, but I think I’m going to go with it.

After talking with my uncle, I started thinking about how different our schedules are and how rarely we see each other.

I have a couple of friends who have blogs so their family members can keep in touch and up to date on what’s happening in their lives.

I would like to create a blog for my family. I haven’t done much research yet to see which sites offer the best service for free.

The first site I looked at is http://www.sampa.com. It says the blog it offers will only be accessible to the people you want to see your blog. It sends out e-mails whenever you update your blog and it also says the people who receive the e-mail notifications can’t forward the link to your blog to anyone else.

Has anyone else out there started a blog for their families? Any advice or recommendations?

I guess I’m a Dwight Dana fan, but your family blog idea sounds like a good one. One of the other bloggers is my niece, who actually came to see me this weekend, with her 2 sons and her mom, my sister. I may have to check into this blog thing myself. It would be a good way to keep in touch.

I have a personal blog that I use to show family pictures to my parents, sisters and friends living outside of South Carolina. I use the site Blogger for mine. It also has settings that allow you to limit who can see your blog. Althought the linking in emails thing you mentioned is a new one for me, but pretty cool nonetheless.

I also have a personal blog for family since we’re so spread out across the U.S., using Blogger. A couple of my friends us it as well, and it’s free.
E-mail notifications would neat, but you can always do it yourself…
You should try it. wink

That is an excellent web site. I just did my first blog and e-mailed it to my family. Great way to keep in touch.

I only read your blog cause I think your typing is sexy..

..but I’m glad someone else reads it too..for more respectable reasons..

I also like the new name…pretty catchy…Lyra stole the name “Morning Buzz” from me..I just had to get that off my chest..

Having a blog would be like having a second job for me..and I dont have any friends and family..so it would pretty much just sit there..

The only person I know is my wife…and I would never give her access to my blog..she’d get in there and find out all my secrets and use them against me..smile

You make me lol, Wolf! I would read your blog. smile I haven’t had time to set up a family blog, yet. I’m hoping to get to it in the next couple of weeks. I think I’ll try the Blogger site everyone recommended - I appreciate the help. I have family in New England and Florida, as well as South Carolina, that I hardly ever get to see. It would be nice to be able to share photos and news with them, so they can look at it whenever they get time.
