Under the Sun: Animal Planet’s got nothing on Dargan Street
I was leaving work the other night when I heard something rustling the parking lot fence.I got in my car and had just turned on the lights when a small cat raced across the grass and caught something up against the side of the building.
The cat turned around, looked at me, then trotted off with its still moving prey.
That’s just one of the wildlife sightings I’ve had here on Dargan Street over the years.
I’ve seen a squirrel moving her babies from a nest in a tree to the top of one of the building’s storm drains.
And we have a grassy area with trees. The squirrels like to hang out there about the same time every evening, eating their dinner.
Not to mention Dumpster Squirrel, who, for one summer, could be seen sitting on top of the brick wall surrounding the Dumpster.
Recently, there’s been a red-cockaded woodpecker who likes to sit on the sign outside the Morning News, tapping away as he tries to find food.
Unfortunately, the sign is made out of metal.
