Turn the Page

Ya gotta feel happy for Darryl Page.
The Wilson coach has spent the last 15 years trying to build a program capable of winning the state title.
On Saturday, he did just that.
The man who couldn't win the big one has now one the big one, forever changing his legacy as a coach.
And who'd have thought it would be THIS group of players? No Lawrence Timmons, no Justin Durant, no Antwain Lyde. Just a buch of no-name guys who played together as team and listened to what their coaches told them.
These Tigers were picked by no one to win the title, and were underdogs during their entire postseason run. But that didn't matter to them. They just played to win.
And now, they all have shiny new metals to proudly display.
And Page has his state trophy, which he might not give back to the school. Page was seen cradling it like a lost child on his way out of the stadium.
Page stood on the bench in front of the entire Wilson crowd, and two arms raised in a "V" said silently what he'd wanted to say for so long.
Enjoy it coach. You've earned it.
