Thoughts on the football season

A few thoughts on the football season so far:
1. Much like Southern Cal in college, the top team in the Elite 8 fell this week, giving every team in the Pee Dee at least one loss. The Bears were without starting quarterback Arlington Scott, and Hemingway took advantage. The Tigers have remained very competitive despite numerous injuries. Heck of a coaching job by Ken Cribb.
2. Speaking of coaching jobs, the Latta Vikings won again. Wins over Johnsonville and Creek Bridge will likely land Latta in the postseason. Who'd have thought that after 27 straight losses entering the season?
3. Hartsville and Marlboro County continue to impress. Jeff Calabrese's squad was four points away from knocking off Myrtle Beach and Marlboro nearly pulled off a win against Conway. I expect to see both squads in November.
4. Congrats to West Florence. The Knights' seniors finally were able to get it done against Wilson. A rough game against Lugoff is the only blemish on the Knights record, and we'll get to see how well they stack up in Class 4A when they host Greenwood this week.
