Thoughts on basketball state championships
Just a few thoughts on Saturday's state championships in Columbia:After I did the story early in the year about the Marion girls, I thought they had a chance to be in Columbia. Now they're state champs after an unbelievable game. It's not easy to overcome losing a double digit lead, but the Swamp Foxes did it. That shows a lot of heart and shows what a good job coach Sturkey has done this year. My congrats.
Tough ends for Mullins and Darlington. You might say it was wrong place, wrong time for both teams. Mullins hit Southside on what is probably the tail end of their great run and Darlington faced a Lower Richland team that hadn't lost in-state in 82 games, and just dropped down from Class 4A.
Another year, who knows? But both squads had tremendous runs. Mullins overcame so much just to make it to this point, and Darlington made school history in the process of getting here. Great seasons.
