There’s a first time for everything

I had a milestone in my journalism career this week: For the first time I did a short segment on News13 called Sunday Spotlight. For those of you who don't know what that is-- it's when we Morning News folks appear on the 5p.m. newscast on Fridays to promote our Sunday 1A stories. Eventually, everybody in the newsroom is supposed to do it and my < one minute of fame came Friday. I had mixed feelings about it. Although I don't dread it, I'm not really the type of person who adores being in front of the camera. In the days before the segment I was a little anxious but by the time I got ready to do it, I just didn't care anymore. I was extremely tired and worried about the story which I wrote with another staff writer. And I had one of my famous It-hurts-over-my- right-eye-only headaches. News13 photographer Bennie Greene was a big help and I enjoyed working with him. He's very professional and he really knows his stuff! At one point when I looked into the monitor and made a comment about the size of my chest, he gently reminded me that the folks in Myrtle Beach were going to hear everything I said. I was quiet after that. Anyway, believe it or not, after my third or fourth take, I actually started enjoying myself! I didn't watch the show Friday but my Dad called me afterwards and told me what a rock star I was. (I can always count on my Daddy for commendation and I think every girl should have the same privlege.) Some other folks told me it was pretty good. I checked it out online the next day and was fairly pleased. I did noticed my left eye twitching and I was sorta moving around a lot which made me look like I had a mild case of Tourette's Syndrome. I know I know, more than likely no one noticed any of the things I've mentioned but hey we see ourselves in a different light than the rest of the world sees us. None of these things are big deals. I'll just make a mental note to stop squirming around---something my mom has tried to get me to stop doing during church meetings for years.
