The past few weeks or so…...
The past few weeks of my life have been pretty eventful.... From working on the new scnow.com to working at the Dodge Challenger 500, I've been pretty busy.It all actually started back at the beginning of this year. We learned that we would, eventually, move from our current content management system called Communiqué to a new system called ExpressionEngine. For the most part, it was assumed that this would happen sometime it June. It wasn't until early April that we learned we would actually launch the new system and design at the beginning of May.
Once we found out the actual deadline for the new site our local and corporate Interactive Media Department started working non-stop to build out the new site. My primary job was to create the graphical buttons. You see these buttons mostly in the middle of the page. With these buttons your able to sign up for our mobile text alerts, upload your photos through Snap!, search DataNow for information from golf courses around the country to S.C. DHEC permitted solid waste sites, submit a recipe for Cecil's World and much more.
Besides buttons, I also had the responsibility to populate on many pages. A big part of this task was taking pages from the previous content management system to the new one. In order to move a lot of content, just about all of the pages had to be resized and reformatted to fit inside the new template. A few of the pages that had to be worked on and changed are; On Your Side, Politics and Cecil's World/Cooking With Cecil.
Each and every person working on the new scnow.com had a To-Do list to complete. If you had began a project, but wasn't able to complete it by the end of the day, you would post your hours to the online application that kept track of the tasks for each staff member. Once you complete at task, you would check it off on the To-Do list. This is how we were able to keep up with everyones progress. We also had to participate in phone calls everyday to make sure we were all on track.
So, eventually, after a few weeks of dedicating almost all of our time to the new site design, we launched the new scnow.com. The new site is much more user friendly and easy to navigate.
At the tale end of the new site design was the Dodge Challenger 500. This was my third year covering the race and I have to say, this race was the most exciting. There were more than two cautions this year and I actually got to have a picture taken with a racer. Now, preferably it would have been Dale Jr., but beggers can't be choosers so I had my picture taken with Kyle Petty. Now, I don't follow NASCAR at all. So, I'm really not any kind of fan at all, but I used to be when I as little. When I was a kid I was a Dale Sr. fan because my dad was. Now, I'm a Dale Jr. fan because of this. I also used to be a really big fan of Kyle Petty when I was a kid, too. He drove the pretty Mellow Yellow car! It was so cool.
Anyway, let me know what you thing about the new scnow.com. What are your likes and dislikes with the new design?

It took some getting used to but I like it. I enjoy the “continuous news desk” feature. One thing I found confusing and admittingly, I’m not that internet saavy. Once you choose to blog, there is no way to get back to the home page. You can select the Snap photo feature and navigate back. Am I overlooking something?
Race pics are cool. I’ve always like Kyle. I admire him for pushing on in spite of Adams death.
