The Colors of Darlington

For all of you that ever heard Aaron Tippin lyrics, you can just picture the scene outside of Darlington Raceway. It‘s a bonanza of colors from pink lawn flamingos to the silver and black flying flags in remembrance of the late Dale Earnhardt. Yet the one color appearing to beam from the hundreds of NASCAR fans that have already arrived in Darlington is gold. As in, these are the golden days to be a race fan, the days before the race when the anticipation heightens with each hour that breezes by.
The campers are parked, the lawn chairs out, the grills crackling with coals, the television is set to Speed channel and of course, a glass of their favorite concoction at hand. While most of us sit around and wait for the weekend to tune into the race. These gearheads have traveled from across the country and some from outside of the continental 48 states to revel in the glory of the “Lady in Black.”
This evening the festivities got underway with the Hauler Parade down highway 52 and into Darlington. Once again it was a rainbow of colors that lit up the old town that used to have this as a biannual event. Instead the lone time it happens this year was not about to go unnoticed. Kids lined the streets from the interstate and adults alike, awaiting the opportunity to catch a glimpse of their favorite cars conveyor. With only three days to go before the Dodge Challenger 500, fans are already having a great time. Practice begins tomorrow and I will be there, but I’ll leave the bevy of colors up to those who are in the pits and cheering in the grand stand.
