The cat chasing the laser pointer blog

Well, here it is...the cat chasing the laser pointer blog.
I will preface it with a little story about my cat.
Her name is Lily. We adopted her from the Florence Animal Shelter about 4 years ago. We've had her almost as long as I've been here in the Pee Dee. Anyway..here's how we knew she was the cat for us....We both went to the animal shelter on different occasions. My husband went first and told me later that one cat in particular, wouldn't leave him alone. He said that she kept sticking her paw out of the cage at him and meowing constantly and being extremely affectionate. So he told me that if I went to the pound and could pick out the same cat (out of a crowd of probably at least 20 cats)...that we could adopt it. Well, when we went to the shelter, she immediately started doing the same thing to me and he told me it was in fact the same cat.

So here we are...a few years later...and Lily is like a child to me. She is very smart, opinionated, and really doesn't fall for much. I usually can't trick her with too many of the usual "cat toys". The only thing she's ever had an interest in seemed to be spools of ribbon that I had around the house. And she loves those.... I don't know what it is about cats and ribbon...but it's a very cheap way to keep them occupied.
Anyway...we were in Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago and found this little laser pointer in the shape of a mouse. It was only two bucks, so I figured why not. Well, now the batteries are almost dead in the thing. That's how much we've used it. The cat absolutely loves the laser pointer. In the beginning she would chase it around time and time again.
She would crouch down on the floor like a tiger waiting to pounce...and then would jump on the red dot, thinking she had cornered it once and for all...only to find that there was nothing under her paw. She also runs around the house quicker than I've ever seen her run...chasing the elusive laser dot. She even gets territorial when the dog makes a go for it.

On the package, it said that it was a good form of exercise for the cat. I'd say though, that it's probably more of a good time for us...cracking up watching her chase this thing around the house.

*LOL*
I thought you were just kidding about this blog…

I fell out laughing just seeing the title of it..wink

Lily sounds like our dog Nemo..he will have tears streaming down your face in no time..We did the laser light thing with him too...and the very next day he jumped up in my lap and ripped my bluetooth right out of my ear..He has a thing for lights that strobe now..

He got the wife and I both the other morning..we went out to let my wife feed our horse some carrots before she went off to work..when we got back in to finish our coffee..they were both empty and Nemo was laying upside down on the couch as if he was asleep..eyes closed..head hanging over the edge of the couch…

Then he burped..he knew he was busted..so he starts thumping his tail on the cushion..and opened one eye to see if we were watching him..all we could do was laugh..

He acts just like a little boy at the best of times..

Every day we just wait to see what he is going to do next..

Yeah, Wolf, no I wasn’t kidding… I like blogging about completely meaningless subjects smile

Anyway, your dog situation sounds funny as well.
We too have a dog who pulls some of the same tricks.
She’s a black lab named Bailie and she acts like a 3 years old...all the time.

She always gets into trouble and then looks at us with those eyes, as if to say “I couldn’t help it.”

She too likes the laser pointer, but she tries to eat it. The cat wants to trap it.

You sure have a pretty cat.

I didn’t know you were married.
Does he know about us?  smile

I know that look in Lily’s eyes! I see it in the eyes of Linus, Liadan and Pepper every day.

Sometimes, it’s the laser pointer that aggravates them. Other times, it’s pipe cleaners and those plastic rings that come off cartons of milk and juice. And sometimes it’s my headbands. Or socks. Or eyeglasses. Or fingers. My cats are always trying to protect me from such dangerous things!

Aren’t pets the greatest source of comedy? smile

Haha...Jackie, they are the greatest source of comedy.
So I’m guessing you too have seen the joy they get out of chasing a ribbon/dangling cord/string/basically anything that flies through the air....

Good stuff...she does look rather annoyed, doesn’t she?

What do you call a cat that has swallowed a duck? A duck filled fatty puss.

Question for you, P.

If lights run on electricity and cars run on gas, what do cats run on?

Mookie, I only feed my cats dry cat food—I had no idea it contained such an energy buzz for them! I do let them have canned tuna and catnip (not at the same time) every so often. And Lia is a huge fan of fresh spinach, to the point of being somewhat violent about it.

Trish, have you ever gotten Lily a toy called a Cat Dancer? It’s just a long wire with little rolled up bits of brown paper on the ends, but it drives my cats nuts. They have tremendous hangtime, I’ve discovered!

I think that’s something my cats and I have in common: we’re very easily entertained. smile

Jackie, I’ll have to get Lily one of those toys...maybe it will entertain her for a little while at least!

Mookie...cats run on Meow Mix.

No silly.

If lights run on electricity and cars run on gas, what do cats run on?

Their paws.

It’s hard to get jokes in blogs.

Patrica,

We need another blog from you!  I have no clue how the bathroom turned out, or your views on everaday life!

Please tell Melissa that I do not enjoy this rain and she needs to change it.  I mean, her smile brightens it up, but that doesn’t really fix my life being soggy....

....or does it?!

PS-I now hate golf for the sole reasen that it knocks the shows around.  Keep up the great work!

Phlorentine...I have been absent for far too long.
I will blog as soon as I think of something clever to say....(which could take a while.)
