The Britney Saga

Do you have an interest in something that completely doesn't fit with your personality? Well, I do. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I'm very serious about my work, can spout off word definitions and political trivia, etc. But what all of them may not know is that behind the "I love the news facade", there is an entertainment news junkie. I'm talking about the worst of the worst- the tabloid rags, the Hollywood gossip websites, you name it. No matter how much I may try to hide it, I am hooked on entertainment news. I check people.com and eonline about as religiously as I check the wires and television news websites....it's pretty bad, I know.

I figure everyone has to have their "thing", this is mine. I am proud (or embarrassed?) to say that I know a bunch of meaningless trivia and actors names, that I'm sure won't help me in any way as my life progresses....and yet, I am intrigued.

So the latest thing to keep me on the edge of my seat? Of course, the never-ending Britney controversy. The latest I read is that she went to yet another custody hearing, and claimed that there were so many photographers outside of the courthouse that she couldn't get in. So what did she do? Call the cops? Get her security guards to muscle their way through the crowds? No. She left and went to church and later to eat lunch with her former papparazo boyfriend.

I don't even know what to think about this situation anymore. You gotta think that she's obviously dealing with some personal demons. I'm sure that the constant media scrutiny only worsens her condition. Put yourself in her shoes...not being able to walk out of your house, go to a drive-thru, take your kids to the park, gain five pounds, without the nation noticing. It can't be easy. And you have to think that all of us who retain some interest in these events are only "feeding the beast."

But then again, she made her bed to a certain extent. She's certainly not doing her very best to win back the custody of her children. She's missing hearings left and right, and a guy who a year or two ago was the laughing stock of the country, is now a "model father." It's definitely not what anyone would've expected.

Who knows what will happen next. One can only hope that she gets her life back on track. I'll be keeping up with the story off the clock.
On the clock, it's back to worrying about what really matters in the world...the everyday stories that fill our newscasts every night.

So what do you think about the Britney saga? Did she have too much too soon? Is she a victim that deserves help from friends and family? Do you not care at all? If you don't care, please forgive my rants...if you do, drop me a line, I'd love to know what you think.

I see this Britney saga as nothing more than a reflection of ourselves ..

We..as people..have evolved to a depressing state..

If a star so much as burps..we have to know what they ate to cause this and how it happened..we have to stick no less than two experts in front of a camera to explain everything from the digestive system of humans to the gas content of particular foods..

We then have to dedicate two front pages of the National Enquirer to candid snapshots of the star taking an overdose of Pepto Bismol..

Going back to a time before we completely evolved to the dirt-slingers that we are today..we can easily see that Elvis..even after all of the crazy stunts he pulled..came out smelling like a rose..

Back to a time that even with all of the sex..drugs..and rock-n-roll..you could die..and be spotted in 7-11’s across the country and your record sells still continue to climb..

Gone are those days…

I’m thinking now that Britney should be the one feeling sorry for us…

Man we suck!

Wolf, good point.
I do believe that what we see these days is a reflection of ourselves...everything from popular fast food, to the shows on tv, to the celebrity culture.....the times have definitely changed.

Seems like all her problems got worse after her having kids. I wonder if anyone ever considered postpartum or perinatal depression.

She looks like crap too.

Mr. Mookie, first of all, great name.
Secondly, I agree her problems did seem to spiral out of control after the birth of her children. But all kinds of stuff was happening at the same time, her relationship with K-Fed was crumbling, and her career wasn’t exactly going well… I’m sure though that post-partum depression does play a role in it as well.

And she went from a good looking hot diva to something that would run the rats off a cheese truck. Funny. I read, don’t know if it’s true. Her Mother was set to publish a book on raising children. Considering the circumstance of Brit and baby sis, I think I’ll pass on that one.

You do a great job, Patricia. We enjoy your reporting.

“run the rats off a cheese truck”...haha I’ll have to use that sometime!

Thanks for the compliment Mr. Mookie!

I think it’s amazing how people could honestly believe she looks bad.  She in no way looks like something that would run the rats off a cheese truck.  She’s had two kids and she still has a pretty good body.  What do you expect from her?  Her children aren’t even that old.  For most women it takes years to recover after having only one child, let alone two.  I understand we have a problem with obessity in this country, but I’m pretty sure she is nowhere near it.  If it’s not obessity we’re dealing with, then it’s young men and women who read such comments and develope low self-esteem.  Which, eventually, makes them starve and/or kill theirself.

I believe that when it comes to our perception of what looks good, we rely on the media too much to tell us what our opinion.  Once one tabloid says this person looks bad, just because they weren’t able to get the exact body they had before they had two children, it’s a chain reaction.  Every American who has heard this then believes this to be their very own personal opinion, then they spread it to everyone they talk to, it’s a domino effect.

Now, I do believe Britney has problems.  I really feel bad for her.  I believe if she doesn’t get help soon, it will not end well for her.

I do have to agree with Trish though, “run the rats off a cheese truck” is a good line.
