Status quo for Day 1

Day 1 of the media tour is in the books and it was pretty uneventful. NASCAR CEO Brian France said there would be no major changes for the upcoming season, a move I agree with. There has been just too much for fans to keep up with over the last few years and I think France realizes that turns people away. Just look at the ratings.

We also visited with Chip Ganassi Racing, which looks more like a United Nations stable with six flags from different countries displayed around the room. Ganassi is taking a big gamble, which might make or break his Cup legacy. Open wheel stars Juan Pablo Montoya and Dario Franchitti occupy two of his three Cup rides. Montoya proved he could get it done last year, winning a road course race. Franchitti might be a bigger project but the talent is there. In addition to talent, he will bring his wife, actress Ashley Judd, into the NASCAR circles. Unfortunately, Judd was not there Monday.

The night concluded with a trip to Richard Childress Racing. Childress is definitely one of the classiest men in the sport and has reinvented his team after falling off the map following Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s death. Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick, which never fail in delivering great sound bites, threw down the gauntlet saying their team is ready to challenge mighty Hendrick Motorsports. Good luck boys you are going to need it.

The price of attending a race is what’s turned us away. We quit going to races. A family of 4 will easily spend $400.00 if not more.  Plus, they ticked us off when they took Rockingham off the circuit. Drop one of those worthless road courses and give us back The Rock. NASCAR has forgotten who and what made them successful.
