Should you trade your gas guzzler?
RIght now, consumers are looking for any way to save money on gas. If that means trading in your car for a smaller car, many people are considering doing just that. If you're thinking of trading your car, car dealers are offering big deals. The down economy is putting a damper on the spring car sales season. There are ways you can save according to a report on MarketWatch.com :Check the internet for deals-you can check what a car should cost in your area.
Know your budget-before asking for a deal, know what you can afford. There are many payment calculators available online.
Consider an older model-you can save a great deal on a car if you buy it when the new models are arriving.
Negotiate before incentives-Don't let your trade-in, rebates or other discounts get lumped into your negotiated price.
Don't cave to pressure-If you can't get the car you want for the price you want, be prepared to walk away.
Remember, car dealerships are like any business. They are in business to make money, otherwise they will close their doors. Be reasonable with your offer and understand they are not there to sell to you for the amount they paid. They spend a lot of money to have the right to buy wholesale. However, there is room for fair negotiation, especially when it's a win-win for both the dealer and the consumer in a down economy.
It's a well-known fact that the moment you drive off the lot, your car depreciates in value. Consider buying a 1-3 year old model. Most dealerships offer certified used cars. It will also keep one less car out of the junkyards and landfills.

My gas guzzler is paid for..title is in the safe..and I have the option of what type of insurance I want to carry on it..
Would I like to trade it in? Sure..but not at the risk of spending a small fortune to do that..
We just did this sometime back with the wife’s Mustang...and it set us back 16 grand...but she is now getting 35 miles per gallon..and driving a brand new vehicle..
It’s a tough decision to make at this point..but getting 15 to 17 miles per gallon on a vehicle that I dont have to drive alot..just isnt enough to push me into making a rushed trade right now..
I can understand why most would do this..especially if you live out in the Pee Dee..where everything is 16 to 40 miles away from you..
