Saints are as good as advertised

The Calhoun County Saints are headed to their fourth straight state title game with Saturday's win over Hemingway.
The run the team has been on the last four years (103-1) is amazing, but they've earned every bit of it.
Hemingway nearly knocked them off last year, but could not compete for more than a half this time around.
The Tigers have always been one of the Pee Dee's top teams, but were no match in this game. A 10-point halftime lead was going to be tough to come back from, I thought, but I thought the Tigers might pull it off if they could get some early shots.
They didn't, and the Saints are more than worthy of the championship ring they will no doubt get. Apologies to the upper state winner, but this was the state championship. If the Saints show up and don't have just an awful day, it won't even be close.
Congrats to our other two winners. Coach Sturkey has done a tremendous job at Marion and I figured the Mullins boys wouldn't be denied again.
