Preparing for Hannah

This is the first time I’ve had to prepare for the possibility of a tropical storm or hurricane hitting the area where I live. I am used to dealing with extreme cold and snow from growing up in New York. I have also seen the devastation caused by tornados during the years I spent in Tennessee. But, this is my first experience with this type of severe weather.
I spent some time in Florida because my sister lived in Miami for a few years. But, I was never there when a hurricane hit. I remember when my parents helped my sister move there in 2004 and they were stuck inside my sister’s unfurnished apartment for days after Hurricane Frances hit. Thankfully, they were all safe. This year, they had a trip to Houston scheduled for earlier this week which they promptly canceled.
I was very worried about my family when they were in the path of the storm. And, now they’re worried about me. About an hour ago my mom called me to tell me to stock up on water and make sure the tank of my car is full of gas.
As we are reporting about hurricane preparedness I am also learning a lot. And, I know it’s so important for all of us to be prepared and take the proper precautions to stay safe.

Hurricane preparedness is much like preparing for the major snow storms we experience.

1. Fill truck with gas.
2. Go to grocery store and buy milk and all the bread that you can possibly carry in said truck.

It’s that easy…..and I’m serious.
