Patriot women headed in right direction
The Francis Marion women’s basketball team had it season end Monday against Clayton State in the Southeast Regional final. And while the Patriots’ season might have ended sooner than they wanted it, it doesn’t diminish their accomplishments.
FMU lead Division II in scoring and set numerous offensive records this season. The Patriots won the Peach Belt and advanced to a regional final for the first time since 1997.
This program is leaps and bounds over where it was just two years ago. FMU was just an average one in the Peach Belt and has become one of the elite ones in the country since Heather Macy took over.
There is no reason to believe that won’t continue especially with a lot of key components coming back and Macy has made it clear that winning a championship is the top priority for the program.
