New at Brookgreen Gardens

News 13 is a proud sponsor of Brookgreen Gardens. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of touring the gardens for the first time and getting a sneak-peak at some of the new exhibits.

The staff at Brookgreen is working hard to get ready for the “Night of a Thousand Candles.” I have heard such wonderful things about this event and I can’t wait to see it when it opens on November 30th! Because the event has been so popular in the past, the hours have been extended and an extra day has been added.

On November 22nd a new horticulture exhibit opens called “Celebrate the Holidays with Color.” It will feature two galleries with some very creative ways to decorate with colorful floral creations.

Be sure to watch our noon show during the holiday season. We’ll have guests from Brookgreen on the show talking about some of these wonderful exhibits.

You have to recognize when the right place and the right time fuse and take advantage of that opportunity. There are plenty of opportunities out there. You can’t sit back and wait.

Self-importance is our greatest enemy. Think about it - what weakens us is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of our fellowmen. Our self-importance requires that we spend most of our lives offended by someone.

Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.

There are two types of people—those who come into a room and say, ‘Well, here I am!‘ and those who come in and say, ‘Ah, there you are.‘

Never part without loving words to think of during your absence. It may be that you will not meet again in life.

The first duty of a leader is to make himself be loved without courting love. To be loved without ‘playing up’ to anyone - even to himself.
