Neil Young ‘Archives’ experience won’t come cheap
Neil Young’s long-delayed “Archives” project should see the light of day later this year. It’s looking like a multimedia masterpiece, but any Neil Young fans with a heart of gold will probably have to sell said organ to afford it.The archives will be released on DVD and Blu-ray, although it seems the Blu-ray version will include the full experience, allowing the user to navigate through photos and notes while listening to unreleased studio tracks and all sorts of good stuff.
I just don’t understand why Neil would put so much stock into an unproven high-definition format. And, he tells his audience the best way to experience the Archives will be on Blu-ray disc viewed on the PlayStation 3.
Yeah, the $600 PlayStation 3. That one. The joke of the gaming world, where something as simple and gimmicky-fun as the Wii is king. And it doesn't even play DVDs, let alone Blu-ray discs!
I’ll have to stick with the DVD version, but I really don’t know what I’m getting since the Blu-ray version is the one I’ve seen touted so much. I own about 20 Neil Young albums, and I feel like I’m getting short shrift because I don’t own a gaming console that would be worthless to me.
Neil Young seems like a folksy guy who wouldn’t be on the cutting edge of technology, but he is, and his endeavors aren’t always so questionable (by the way, check out his “Trans” album for a fun curio). I recently read that he has hired a mechanic to convert his Lincoln Continental into a biodiesel-electric hybrid that gets 100 miles to the gallon. In this day in age, I’d be willing to shell out a ton of money for that instead of a PlayStation 3.

Southern man don’t need him around, anyhow.
