NASCAR and Chick Flicks

Some of the simple things in life that I enjoy have been classified by others as "guilty pleasures." I don't agree with this, though. I enjoy enjoying them. Which brings the question, "What makes a pleasure guilty?"

My good friend Wikipedia says, "A guilty pleasure is known as something one considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Fashion, music and food can be examples of guilty pleasures."

Or perhaps chick flicks.

In the past week, I've spent an arm and a leg seeing two of them. This is pretty rare.
Last week...I saw "He's Just Not That Into You." I never read the book, but it was about what I expected. It's funny to see "real-life" scenarios played out on the big screen. My favorite part of the movie was probably when this 20-something girl went on a tirade as to why she doesn't like Caller ID....because she should "have the right" to call her love-interest 15 times in 5 minutes and hang up after she hears his voice, without him knowing who the crazy caller is.

Wow.

And then the most recent one I saw...."Confessions of a Shopaholic." Now I read some of these books back in college, and I didn't think the movie matched the books much at all. That's usually the trend, though. Or maybe I just don't remember the books all that well. That's usually a trend also. Anyway, it was an okay movie. Nothing spectacular, but I did enjoy it. I'm far from a movie critic so there are actually few that don't care for. I will say that I left this movie feeling quite proud of my bargain-hunting skills.

In between my overly-girly movie choices, I balanced myself out by enjoying the big Daytona 500 race! Well, Datona 348...It was pretty lame. Quite anti-climactic. The big 9-car-crash was exciting, though. But I can't complain...all 4 of my fantasy NASCAR league drivers finished in the top ten!

Perhaps another "guilty pleasure" that could've made the week better is if I could've made it to the Monster Truck show in Florence. Hopefully some of you were able to get out there. If so, send me some pictures! We may can even put them on the blog. smile

And, this is not surprising...after a quick Google search, apparently the most popular American guilty pleasure these days is TV, in particular "celebreality" TV.
