Myrtle Beach Marathon getting bigger every year

Today might be one of my favorite days of the year, when it comes to the annual events we cover at News 13.

Tonight, we'll take our 5:00 and 6:00 newscasts "on the road" once again, as we join the community in celebrating the kickoff of the Myrtle Beach Marathon weekend.

Bob Juback, Martha Hunn, and Frank Johnson will anchor our coverage from outside Ripley's Aquarium. If you are planning on being out there, please drop by and say hi.

Elise Olson will bring you the story of Tom Gardner, one of the original founders of the race who now has a rare form of leukemia. He'll share his story of how the disease has has changed his outlook on life and how he hopes to use it to affect others.

Lyra Manning will take a look at the Marathon "by the numbers," along with much, much more.

Organizers say the marathon is expected to attract the biggest field of runners in it's history. 10,000 men and women from across the country and around the world are expected to take part.

Frank says the weather should be close to perfect, with temperatures in the low 40's, and plenty of sunshine when the gun sounds bright and early Saturday morning.

If you plan on being there, or are taking part in any of the events connected with the marathon this weekend, feel free to share your photos and video with us - simply log on to scnow.com and click on Znap! or Zoom It!

Have a great weekend, and enjoy the race.
