Morning Buzz: Wii champ

If you’re a tennis fan, you probably watch the French Open and other big tournaments. But, at a bar in Brooklyn, NY a man from Eugene, OR was holding court. This story comes to us from KVAL in Eugene. Dylan Romero was competing in the “Wiimbeldon” virtual tennis tournament…. And he emerged the Wii winner… beating out more than 120 competitors.

Romero told KVAL, he doesn’t even own his own Wii gaming system, but there’s one at his job that employees can play on breaks. You may wonder, why your own office doesn’t have this available to you… well, Romero works at a company that creates video games.

Are you a champ at any video game? I’m not… the closest I’ve been to winning a game is getting to level 8-2 (out of 8-4) in the original Super Mario Bros.

Not a chance..

I’m more of a chump than a champ when it comes to video games..

I all but made a career out of the original Super Mario Bros…

Super Mario Bros was the video game that I enjoyed the most since I started playing them..it holds nowhere near the graphics or the moves of today’s games..but it sure held my attention back then…

I remember when Super Mario 3 came out… and I was so amazed at how far those graphics had come from Super Mario 1!  Either way, I’ve never beat any of those games.

I did beat the original..but I’d be ashamed to say how many years it took..wink

I thought I was something when I learned how to “rock the turtle” on those stairs and got 100 Marios…that was the only way I had enough games to finish..

All of the games after that improved with graphics..but not to the point of today..it was still however amazing how much better it had gotten..

We have a PS2 but I often miss Super Mario Brothers..I suppose it is because it was pure fun..aggrivating..and something we did together night after night…even though we swore we wouldnt play it all night..we still did..

I remember how the happiness we found when we beat the game was short lived…we then had to weed through tons of games to find another that offered that much fun..

Ah the memories..smile
