Morning Buzz: The most expensive sneaker ever?

Kevin Garnett with the Boston Celtics teamed up with adidas for the latest version of the Team Signature commander shoe. The shoe was designed to commemorate the Celtics’ historic run at an NBA championship, according to adidas.com. A press release from the company says so far, there are only eight pairs of this sneaker available. And the final number of the shoes will be either 32 or 56 depending on the number of games The Finals goes to. The limited edition adidas Team Signature Commander sells for $1017 to commemorate the drive for championship #17. All profits from the sale of these shoes will go to the NBA Cares community partners in the Boston area.

The money goes to a good cause, but this is still a pricy pair of shoes. Would you buy a pair to celebrate your favorite team or player?

No. Not just to celebrate my team or any player. However, if I could afford it I would buy them to support the charity they represent.
Wonder what gas prices are doing to the groups that depend on charitable donations? Bet they are hurting.

I think charities have seen the effects of the gas prices.  I think it’s impacting almost everyone.  I saw a report on CBS early this morning that said plastic products, make up and even beer are seeing a big price increase.

If I’m forced to choose between beer and gas….......I’m walking.

Well there goes any chances I had of drinking beer out of a plastic bottle while putting on my make up…

Oh listen to me sounding just like Bob Juback..wink

I dont think I want shoes that someone would kill me over…my wife would be the first in line when she found out what I paid for them…:)

Oh, yeah, I’d buy a pair along with a $175 Wall Street hamburger… NOT!

I’m glad the money goes to charity; however, I would never support my team by wearing expensive sneakers. I can barely afford the paint to paint my face orange at the Clemson games this year wink

The idea is original, so hopefully they will have success and the charities will benefit.

I’m an accountant, so I see what people give to charitable contributions. When times get tight, they are usually the first to go. Also during recessions, people tend to buy more beer and cigs. With an increase in demand, prices will soon follow. Too bad chardonnay isn’t a taxable deduction. I’d be doing pretty good.

After about 6 beers…it all tastes like chardonnay..smile

I think when Lyra has a substitute do the news..they should have to do the Morning Buzz too..so they get the full effect what it is like baby-sitting us…*LOL*..wink

I’d rather just give my money directly to the charity, myself.

Now, if there’s something I’m looking to buy, if I find two of the items for the same price, but a portion of the cost of one of the items goes to a charity I support, I’ll buy that one.

For example, I was looking for a pair of earrings to buy for my sister-in-law as a bridal shower gift before she married my brother. I found a pair I thought she’d like on The Breast Cancer site. I bought them because breast cancer prevention and research is something she supports, and a portion of the proceeds from my purchase went toward funding a mammogram for a woman in need. So, it was a gift for her plus a donation to charity in her name.
