Morning Buzz: Rising cookout costs

It you plan on grilling out Monday, you may be paying significantly more than you did last Memorial Day. The Associated Press reports food inflation is at the highest in 20 years. If you plan on buying burgers, hot dogs, beer, soda, condiments, salad, paper plates and lighter fluid, that will run you six percent more than last year. Reports show the rising food prices are pushing people to cut corners and find bargains. Some ideas that may help you cut costs: clip coupons, and buy store brands, which usually cost less than name brands.

Hey Here’s an Idea let’s get some Hamburger Meat and because Traffic is going to be so bad this weekend..Especially around the Atlantic Beach area set up a Hamburger stand and sell them for $30 each…and with the money we make Fri.Sat.Sun…. we can have one Helluva Cookout Monday…Beer everything Lyra mention’s up on her list….if you have never got caught up in that Traffic jam you dont know what i.m talking about…Before the Carolina Bay’s Parkway was built ...we got stuck in Traffic there by accident it took us 4 hours to get 5 mile’s that’s how bad Traffic is on Both sides of Hwy.17 North…South Bound…..So we can sell Burger’s For $30 each!! smile

I deas to help you cut costs..yet enjoy your meal..

That is the name of the game these days..

I’ll tell you of an idea or two that the wife and I tried..and liked them so much that they have become a routine around here..

Southern Home brand food is relatively cheap yet still retains most of the quality..They make Ravioli..Beef and 4 Cheese…at Bi-Lo they usually sell for 2 for $5.00 dollars…there is enough in each pack to serve two people…Now this aint your can ravioli..this is found in the frozen food section..this is the real McCoy..it’s everything the wife and I can do to eat one pack between the two of us..

So you boil your ravioli for about 20 minutes..at the same time you are heating a can of Oven Roasted tomatoes…they have tons of different flavored tomatoes these days..usually $1.50 a can..and you add garlic..diced Spring onions..or whatever tickles you fancy..

After you have them on your plate..add grated cheese…and Parmesan cheese..and you are set..

20 minutes and about 2 bucks a serving..and you wont believe the taste..

Something else we love to do now..is buy a variety of the 99 cent lunch meat…they have tons to choose from…lettuce..cucumber and tomatoe…and make sub sandwiches..it’s cheap..it’s easy..no heating up the house with the oven…and it’s something we can do together..

These are the kinds of things people should be exploring with food costs up these days..

If you dont already have at least a small freezer..invest in one now!

Hey Gang what Pookey say’s up there is true!..the Carolina Bays Parkway Helps ease Traffic some But nor alot…So unless you just want to get stuck in Traffic for a long period of time…Stay off Hwy.17 Business…North and South Bound Lanes..the south side starts backing up to the Dixie Stampede on into The Festival area…...not unless you get paid travel time…Like me then Go!! Lyra you and the rest of the gang here have a good Weekend!! Lyra are you and Chris working Monday? Be Everyone be safe !! smile

Rising cookout costs: last year we had filet mignon. This year we’ll have hot dogs and save a little money, but not much.

Mr. Mookie… too funny!

Well, since my husband likes to cook, he also buys the groceries. So, I don’t even know what the price of food is anymore; except at take outs, or fast food places…when he is out of town. grin

Where do they come up with the words we have to type in. that would be a good blog in itself… LOL
