Morning Buzz: Missing soup can found!

This is a follow up to a Morning Buzz topic from a couple of months ago. An Oregon woman named Theresa Hekel donated cans of soup to a food drive, but accidentally included a can that was a safe in disguise and was hiding $10,000 dollars worth of jewelry. Well, KOIN-TV reports that the can has been found! A volunteer at Clark County Adventist Community Services, an organization which works with the food bank, spent that past two months shaking soup cans hoping to help find Theresa’s jewelry.
Then last week, she heard what sounded like a lose bracelet shaking in the can. And, just like that the jewelry was found and returned to Theresa.

Theresa said, “Oh I want to give her a great big hug and I want to give her a reward." But the volunteer, Carolyn Karlstrom said that she’s "just tickled I was able to have a part in it I would certainly say no to any reward talk."

Have you ever lost something and had a good Samaritan return it?

Don’t you just love a happy ending? I still say most people are honest and caring. This lady proves she certainly is both. Things like this happen all the time, we just don’t hear about them. When you read the newspaper, listen to or watch the news you only hear about all the bad stuff. This story is a rare exception. Look for more good stuff Lyra, Bob etc. That is what I want to hear about. Why not dedicate the 5:00 PM news and one hour of the morning show to nothing but good news.

That’s great news.  I live in Marion. Never lost anything and had it returned. I have had my truck stolen and shop broken in to twice.

See, people really are basically good. If you expect the best from them, and give your best in return, chances are good you’ll get it. Loved this story!!

These kinds of stories always make me smile smile Recently, my mom found a woman’s purse in the subway in New York.  She was able to track down the woman and return the purse to her.  The woman was so thankful because in addition to her personal belongings, she also had her children’s birth certificates in there.

See. There are even good people in a city not known for good & caring people. I knew you came from good stock Lyra. I am sure your mom is not the only one in The City.

That was a nice story this morning. I was hoping someone would help her out. One would hope that people doing volunteer work would go the extra mile for someone.  God bless those people!

Whenever I find something I know someone has left, like a cell phone or credit card, I always make an effort to get it to a manager or security guard. I believe in Karma… maybe I watch too much “My Name is Earl”.

Loved your shirt this morning, Lara!

I respectfully disagree with this: “When you read the newspaper, listen to or watch the news you only hear about all the bad stuff.“

Exhibit A: today’s front page of our paper, the Morning News, featuring a story about a camp at ScienceSouth. I feel sure that when we get the reports on today’s scnow.com page views, this story isn’t in the top 10. For background, The story that topped Wednesday’s list was “Banner plane down in Surfside Beach.“ From Tuesday, it was “Arrest made in delivery driver attack.“

But my point is this: to say we only report the bad stuff isn’t fair, just as it’s not fair to say people only read the bad stuff.
