Morning Buzz: Marathoner catches robbery suspect
This story comes to us from St. Paul, Minnesota courtesy of CBS affiliate WCCO. A hospital worker in St. Paul witnessed two men trying to burglarize a coffee shop and wasn’t going to let them get away with it.
Mark Laliberte says he saw the men breaking into the register as he was passing by. And his first reaction was to stop them. He wrestled one suspect, who broke away and ran. But, Laliberte runs marathons and knew he could catch up to him. The chase went on for blocks, then, Laliberte caught up to the suspect, grabbed him and dragged him back to hospital security.
The owner of the coffee shop is thankful to Laliberte. She’s showing her appreciation by giving him free lattes.

“Initially confronting the thief and tackling him inside the hospital...Laliberte got caught up in the suit coat he was wearing which allowed the suspect get free…
After removing the sports coat Laliberte proceeded to run the thief down....
Once they were back in the hospital..Laliberte gave the suspect a quick leg sweep that he remembered from his college kickboxing days and brought the man to the ground...With his knee on his back...Laliberte waited for hospital security and the St. Paul cops..who placed the man under arrest..”
He’ll be lucky if he doesnt get sued by the thief..
