Morning Buzz: How much energy do your appliances use when they’re turned off?

A lot of us have heard that our electrical appliances are still using electricity when they’re turned off, but do they use enough electricity to really impact our electric bill? A report from KPIX in San Francisco says… yes.
A reporter who does a lot of stories on green technology, used a new gadget called the “Kill A Watt” to see how much energy household appliances are using when they’re turned off. His crew found the largest draws of energy came from large screen TVs and computer monitors. They also found significant watts being drawn from florescent lamps and even cell phone chargers that are plugged in when not in use. Those watts add up to kilowatts which add up to your bill being higher.
Do you unplug your appliances when you’re not using them to save money?

Urban Legend…

..total electric cost when appliances are left plugged in is about $0.15 (15 cents) per day..or $4.50 per month..per household

It’s worth 5 bucks a month for me not to have to unplug them…

Now I’m sure some Math Wiz will come along with how much that 5 bucks adds up over the course of 20 years..or how it is 5 bucks per house..per month multiplied by millions of houses..

Well I dont have to pay a full 20 years at one time..Me and the power company have that thing worked out where I can just give them roughly 5 bucks a month..and leave my appliances plugged in..

I also dont have to pay for my neighbors bill..even if I had a million neighbors..I only have to pay my bill..

This “Going Green” cult mentality is fun to watch sometimes..but it can be annoying..

Anyone who isnt “green” is the bad guy…cept they overlook the fact that their parents..grand-parents…or even great grand-parents weren’t green…so you come from a long line of bad people..Be sure to add that to your resume..

I beieve that all of this BS about unplugging appliances was actually leaked out by the power companies..so they didnt get the same treatment as the oil companies and high fuel prices..

What better defense could there possibly be to avoid customer complaints..than to shift the blame back onto the customers?

Your electric bill is high because you dont unplug all of your appliances when not using them…

..yeah right..
