Morning Buzz for Wednesday 4/2/08 - New TSA checkpoints on the way?
CBS News reports The Transportation Security Administration is rolling out new security checkpoints to calm the harried process for travelers, hoping that will help them spot a someone who may pose a security threat whose anxiety level might be higher. TSA spokeswoman Ellen Howe says, "We're really looking at the human element of the checkpoint and trying to quiet things down, calm the experience for everybody and that will result in a better experience going through security but it will also help us to see the bad guys stand out more.”Lights and music will be used to help create a calmer mood. TSA agents will use lights and small magnifying glasses to determine the authenticity of traveler's identification. The agents will also usewireless communication systems to decrease shouting between workers. Travelers will be selected randomly to pass through a millimeter wave system which scans travelers' bodies for concealed weapons. TSA screeners will also engage passengers in conversation more often.
The TSA will test the new checkpoint system at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and then it will be determined if these procedures will be implemented at other airports.

BWI is already a damn nightmare. I make sure to arrive at least 2 hours early. Even at that, you often find yourself running to the gate. This will only make it worse. I don’t care about soothing music or conversation. Just let me get my shoes back on my feet and move on.
