Morning Buzz for Wednesday 1/30/08 - A new use for the Wii?

CBS affiliate KPHO in Phoenix reports a doctor at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Arizona says he has found a way to use the Nintendo Wii to help surgical residents train for surgery. Dr. Kanor Kahol says when he started playing the Wii, which uses a hand-held controller similar to a remote, he noticed the movements were a lot like the movements used in surgery. So, he took the controller, put a probe at the end of it – and – using the game “Marble Mania” made it into a surgery simulator of sorts. He says it helps residents practice the fine, delicate movements needed in real surgery.

We’ll show you video of this during News13 This Morning so you can get a better idea of how it works. What do you think about a Wii being used for medical training?

I think even having to ask if your doctor is a “gamer” just screws up the whole doctor/patient relationship thingie..

Where once you could get naked and just think of this person as your doctor..now you have to think of him as some freaky lil kid sittin’ in front of the TV playing “Legion Of Doom”..

I’m tellin’ ya’ll..this aint a good thing..

Couldn’t he have just used the Trauma Center: Second Opinion game?

Thanks for the Walmart link. I stood in line at the Customer Service desk for 45 mins. last night.
Bought a 3 piece American Tourister luggage set. Got home and 2 pieces were missing. ( i know, i should have checked before i left) Anyway, it took them that long to wait on me. Mistake after mistake and just poor service. I looked at the lady one time and thought if they put her brain in a hummingbird, she’d fly backwards up a mules ass.

I dont know Ashlee..

Trauma Center may be a bit advanced for this group..remember they are still playing “Marble Mania..

I also fear that even the slightest mention of the words “second opinion” would be devastating at this stage of their learnin’..
