Morning Buzz for Wednesday 1/30/08 - A new use for the Wii?
CBS affiliate KPHO in Phoenix reports a doctor at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Arizona says he has found a way to use the Nintendo Wii to help surgical residents train for surgery. Dr. Kanor Kahol says when he started playing the Wii, which uses a hand-held controller similar to a remote, he noticed the movements were a lot like the movements used in surgery. So, he took the controller, put a probe at the end of it – and – using the game “Marble Mania” made it into a surgery simulator of sorts. He says it helps residents practice the fine, delicate movements needed in real surgery. We’ll show you video of this during News13 This Morning so you can get a better idea of how it works. What do you think about a Wii being used for medical training?
