Morning Buzz for Wednesday 1/16/08—The price is right?
Welcome to the Morning Buzz on scnow.com! This is a place where we can talk about the stories making noise around the Pee Dee, The Grand Strand and beyond. I would love for you to voice your opinion by posting comments here!
Do high prices make us think something is better when it really isn’t? A study at the California Institute of Technology says yes… at least when it comes to wine. Researchers told people they were going to taste 5 different Cabernet Sauvignons while hooked up to brain scanners. But, in reality they were only tasting 3 different wines. A $90 wine was served with its real price tag, and again with a $10 price tag. Another was presented with its real price of $5 and then with a $45 tag. Researchers say the testers’ brains showed more pleasure when participants drank the bottles with the higher price tags – even when it was the same wine. The study concludes people’s perceptions of how good something “should be” can actually outweigh reality.
I wonder if the results would be the same for other things, like ice cream… or even clothing. Do our brains usually interpret something with a higher price as being better? If so, is there anything we can do to “re-program’ ourselves… and save money! What do you think? Let’s discuss this morning. I’ll see you at 5am!

Well first let me set the record straight here..I dont think it is very nice to be playing tricks on winos..it’s tough enough being down there on skid row without people pokin’ fun at them..
They didnt have to conduct a test to figure this one out..
“people’s perceptions of how good something “should be” can actually outweigh reality”..
Any married man could have told them that..even if they had been giving him beer that only cost a dollar and a nickel..
Not that I think any of you need fixin’ but..
..they do have a new “re-programming” wing at the Betty Ford Clinic..it’s just off of the Nintendo wing..
..I find that the chances of meeting your favorite stars greatly improves when you check yourself into detox..surely ya’ll didnt think I met all of these TV personalities at WalMart..
