Morning Buzz for Tuesday 2/26/08 - Best Tasting Water

Los Angeles, California is the big winner at an international competition. LA was voted number one in having the tastiest tap water in the country. More than 120 water sources competed in the 18th annual Berkley Springs International Water Tasting in West Virginia. The Associated Press reports a panel of 10 journalists and food critics sampled sparking water, tap water and bottled water from 19 states, and other countries. LA and Clearbrook, British Columbia, Canada tied for first place.

This made me start thinking about the different taste of water in different cities, towns, and from a bottle. Some say buying bottled water is a waste of money… and in some cases is actually tap water. Others believe bottled water is more pure and tastes better. Do you drink bottled water or do you fill your cup straight from the tap? Which one do you think tastes better?

I do both…depending on where I am at the time..

I love the way our water from a deep well tastes here at home..to the point that I usually keep 3 bottles of it in the fridge at all times..

When I’m on the go..I really dont like drinking alot of sodas..or other drinks offered out there..so bottled water is a nice change from all of that..

There is a noticable difference in the taste of water from different sources..some have a rusty taste..some have a chlorine taste…I’ve even tasted some up in the mountains that tasted like sulphur or limestone..

This is quite possibly the only healthy thing I do in life..smile

Here’s an interesting read on the real scoop behind bottled water.

If you think gasoline is expensive check the price per gallon of bottled water. Is it worth it? In some cases yes in my opinion. Most of the time no. Think of all the plastic being used   that has to be disposed of also.

I remember when the bottled water trend started.  It was called “designer water.“ Maybe it’s more about image than what’s actually in the bottle.  But, some people do really like the taste of certain bottled water… no matter what the source.

I think with some people it is all about “image”..I have been at their houses and they have like a case of the stuff in their fridge..and even carry them around with them..everywhere they go..

I remember when they started that “designer water” thing..people would tell me that it was from the cool Rocky Mountains..

I always thought that was Coors that ran in those streams..and when you caught a fish..you had to send him to re-hab before you could eat him..

I’ve lived in a few states myself and I would have to say that the best water I’ve ever tasted was in the state I was born in…good old Arkansas. It was well water at my great-grandmother’s home but the thing about well-h20 is that is leaves your mouth with an interesting color palette ranging from beige to brown depending on how long you’ve drank waster from that well. Actually I shouldn’t generalizes so let me rephrase my comment by saying that I’ve seen those colors in a lot of mouths I’ve encountered that drink well water. Tap water in most places I’ve lived like St. Louis, Syracuse, Miami, Columbia, Nassau and a few other locations tasted too chemically treated for my liking. That being said I have to admit that I am one of those that drink water from a bottle. It most likely is a mental thing but I’ve tried the Brita filter and other mechanisms. Tap just isn’t tasty to me.

I have well water at home, and let me tell you, that Brita pitcher is my friend. So is OxyClean, for my laundry.

I have a filter at my water pump as well, and you should see the rusty goo that collects on it—ewww.

Even if my well water tasted fine without being twice-filtered, the image of that orange slime will prevent me from knowing.

Another good reason for me to stick to beer.

Do you take baths in that nasty water? Does the Oxyclean take the orange out? Oxyclean does not remove brown stains…....so I’ve heard.
