Morning Buzz for Thursday 3/27/08 - Driving around the world without stopping for gas?

Today’s buzz comes to us from KCNC in Denver: A group of friends from Japan are driving around the world without stopping at a gas station. Their Toyota Land Cruiser is powered with vegetable oil. The three left Japan in December and made it to North America on January 1st. Earlier this week, they arrived on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins to show off the SUV and promote the use of vegetable oil as a alternative to gas..

Shusei Yamada designed the biodeisel processor which fits in the back of the Landcruiser. He says you dump used vegetable oil into it and about 24-hours later have a clean burning, useable fuel to power the SUV.

Yamada says part of his journey is to teach people that you don't have to be an engineer to create this fuel, which will burn in nearly all diesel powered vehicles. It gets about 20 miles per gallon and can hold 25 gallons of fuel.

The team says they are also hoping to teach people that they can live a "greener" life.

They hope to finish their trip in the next two years.

I can either cook up a batch of french fries..or drive to Turbeville and back..on my old veggie oil..*lol*

I wonder how good this will work in the John Deere..

If I plant veggies I could recycle..
