Morning Buzz for Thursday 1/31/08 - High Prices for the Big Game

How much would you spend to see the Giants and the Patriots in the Superbowl? Some fans are shelling out thousands of dollars according to this article from The Associated Press:
(AP) Die-hard Giants and Patriots fan are paying record prices to scalpers for tickets to this year's Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., and the total dollar volume of resold seats could be the biggest ever, according to ticketing firms.
Asking prices for the Feb. 3 game range from $2,450 to $19,446 at StubHub, a unit of eBay Inc. and the biggest of the online resellers. Officials there say the average price so far is $4,300 for tickets that the National Football League originally priced at either $700 or $900.
"It appears our face value is underpriced based on demand and what people are willing to pay," said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, who seems resigned to the fact that the league is mostly powerless to stop the profitable turnover of tickets.
Marcel Nadeau of Rehobeth, Mass., said he paid $29,385 to reseller RazorGator for a package that includes three hotel nights and breakfasts, transportation to and from the game, a gift package, and tickets for him and his two sons.
"I'm confident the Patriots will win," Nadeau said in explaining why he is willing to shell out the big bucks.

It only takes a day for an idiot to be born..then it takes a whole life-time for us to get rid of him..

I noticed that after Marcel from Mass. up there spend that $29,385..there was no mention of a wife..

I have all ideas she is down at the local Family Court re-telling this story..as we speak..no doubt to a woman judge..

He spent this money cause he thinks the Patriots will win..I cant even imagine the embarrassment involved when this comes up at the divorce proceedings..only to discover that the woman judge is a Giants fan..

I guess I am being a lil hard on the guy..especially since I will be using him as a comparison in the future when I screw up..

That is outrageous the prices of today’s sporting events.  I know this one is the super bowl. I could see spending up to 500 on General Admission. The prices of tickets tickets these days are the main reason I don’t goto sporting events. I used to be an avid hockey fan but when I found out that the cheapest ticket was 50$. I also used to love to goto Nascar racing when it was up in Rockingham, but alas when they went up in price that is what made me stop going.

I see attendance reports for baseball games and they are down in the majors but up in the minor’s. The minors you can get in for 25$ but the cheap tickets for Major is 50$.

I think if we did a “Price Check” on tickets people would go more to events.
I know this is the Super Bowl, but that is an Outrage that kind of money. This guy spent 2x what I make in a year.

I wouldn’t pay $100.00 to see them play.
I do wish I had a pair to ticket. No doubt, I’d sell them.

I’ll have to agree with what Chris said this morning… Take the money and put it toward a big TV to watch the game on year after year!

The Super Bowl is a once in a lifetime event for football fans and has always been highly priced. Even though the prices have gone up they are just as expensive in comparison to the value of a dollar now-a-days. I would like to hope one day I will be able to be a part of the event and if you have the money why not?! I’m sure Marcels sons will have the time of their lives even if the Pats lose. I guess it all depends on how much you like the sport and how bad you want to go.. but if I had the money and the time to go I will definitely be there. Plus most people that go on vacation spend more money than you would think with airfare, food, accommodations, and entertainment. The Super bowl would definitely be my vacation of choice! Oh and GO PATS !  ! !
