Morning Buzz for Monday 1/7/08

Welcome to the Morning Buzz on scnow.com! This is a place where we can talk about the stories making noise around the Pee Dee, The Grand Strand and beyond. I would love for you to voice your opinion by posting comments here!
One thing you may be buzzing about as you drive to work, is something I noticed when I filled up my gas tank this weekend. Gas prices are up, on average, 10 - 13 cents in the Florence and Myrtle Beach areas. Depending on the size of your gas tank... and what grade you have to use – that can really add up. For me, I spent two dollars more this week than last. And, that may not seem like a lot – but it’s two dollars I now can’t spend on something else. Do you change your driving habits when gas prices are way up? We’ll talk about this more on Monday. Let’s say sometime between 5 and 7am. See you then!

I do change my driving habits when gas prices get high by combining my errands.  Think about it, if you can find a way to drive just 5 fewer miles per day by combining your errands, then you save at least one gallon of gas per week, or about $3 assuming 25 mpg.  That’s about $160 per year.  Every little bit helps.

I have to agree with Chris on the combining of errands. It has become a way of life around our house.

We also dont fill our vehicles all the way up when prices rise. At 6.5 pounds per gallon, adding all of that extra weigh only uses more fuel to carry around with you. Fuel up multiple times during the week and save yourself a little more.

I’m still looking through the old Count On Health episodes to determine if pumping fuel really burns calories..if so then I will go with that angle too…
