Morning Buzz for 2/13/08 - Communication Breakdown

Were you one of the millions of people affected during the BlackBerry blackout? Late Monday, service for the hand-held phone/email/organizer devices went dead for a several hours. I don’t have a BlackBerry, but many of my friends and co-workers do. And, they always seem to have it in the palm of their hands – or by their side. I imagine it must have been tough to all of a sudden lose something that is literally attached at your hip.

Did you lose service? Do you think we’re too dependent on technology? Let’s discuss. Maybe I’ll read your comment on the air tomorrow.

Heavens No...I hope to never be that smart..

I couldnt master the VCR..I barely got by on the DVD player..the Direct TV recorder still stumps me at the best of times..

..so to picture myself with a Blackberry is almost funny.."a monkey doing a math problem”..comes to mind..

I’m far behind in technology..and hope to remain there for as long as possible..

I think that for the person in the work force who has to keep up with this fast paced world that we live in..staying on the cutting egde of technology would no doubt make your job and life somewhat easier..but once you get used to something..it is hard to go back to the “old ways” again..

So yes..society as a whole is probably far too dependent on technology..

Just look at the confusion post Katrina. Peoples Cell Phones no longer worked. I think we have become to technology dependent. You even see people driving with cell phones on their ears. I was shopping the other day and there was a lady chatting away into her ear bud phone. At first I thought she was talking to me.

My cell phone has BlueTooth..I actually prefer that to people trying to drive and use a cell phone at the same time..some people just cant multi-task..

In this case I think technology is a good thing to keep up with..for safety reasons..

It is strange to see someone else use them tho..walking along talking to themselves...that used to be considered a sign that you wasnt all there..

I don’t have a blackberry and dread the day it is recommended.  When my work day ends, I like it to be over, and not to be available 24/7 like most users of these devices.  The US Government claims that American productivity is on the rise, and you have to wonder if these devices are part of the reason.

What is so sad is that society this day and time has become to dependent on high tech.devices..wireless devices especially..but the reality is in the event of a Disaster,Hurricane,tornado,Etc...We will go from the Jetsons back to the Flintstones In a matter Of Seconds......Me I Perfer to stay as low tech. as i possible. so i Can avoid Being Part Of the mentioned Topic above!!!
