Morning Buzz: Do you work after hours on your BlackBerry?
Employees at some companies are saying they should get paid overtime for emails they’re sending on their BlackBerrys after the work day is over. CBS News reports that an article in the National Law Journal says that some attorneys are now telling companies to create detailed overtime policies to address potential complaints about after-hours emailing.
If you have a BlackBerry or similar device, you probably check it pretty often. But, do you do that out of habit or can you really not put it down because you may miss a work-related email that needs to be answered before the next business day?
Julia Angwin, Technology Reporter for the Wall Street Journal told CBS News, “Sometimes blackberry usage after hours becomes extremely intrusive it can take up your whole evening your whole day on a weekend in that case it really is like being at work.”
But, should you get paid every time you check an email after you’ve left the office? The report says ABC Employees came to an agreement last week where workers can get paid for some of the work if it goes “beyond routine.”
