Morning Buzz:  Car that runs on only battery power

This story comes to us from Chicago TV station WBBM. An entrepreneur in Sugar Grove, IL has invented a vehicle that runs independent of any gas at all.

Greg Zanis’s “The Dream Car 1-2-3” runs on 80 batteries. It reportedly can get 240 miles on one charge. The cost is between $21,000 and $24,000. So, the price is comparable to some other cars on the market, but you’ll definitely turn heads in this car because it doesn’t look like anything else on the road…. Yet.

You may see it on the road soon. Zanis says California will license the vehicle because it meets all safety requirements there. But, his home state of Illinois will not license it at this time.

Wanna see the “Dream Car?” Be sure to tune in this morning from 5 to 7. Then, let me know, would you drive it?

Something about an 8,000 pound vehicle with 80 batteries and seating for one person..just doesnt sound too much like a “green” car..

If this vehicle isnt bad enough..he plans on building another one with 480 batteries..

One has to wonder how much it costs to charge 80 batteries..each time you wanna drive 240 miles..compared to today’s fuel prices and the comfort of your whole family being able to ride together in the same vehicle..

I think I’ll pass on driving this one…tho I do like the bullet proof glass..that would be a required option if you drove that in my neighborhood at night…:)

I think its good that people are looking at alternate ways to power cars, but I would like to see one that can seat more than one person.

I do want to add, though… this is a very creative idea.  We may see more vehicles like this on the roads as gas prices continue to rise and people look for other options.  This may be something someone can drive to work, but not a family car.

I agree..it is great that people are looking for better ways..

But I stand with Chris on this one…I’d like a bit of style added to the looks of these ideas..

I wanna save money but dont wanna look like a dork doing it..

Wolf…who is Chris?

Chris is that fine looking weatherman that you see in the mornings with Lyra..

Chris often gives his thoughts on the day’s topic…

Still…I believe is his last name..it comes from the Civil War era…his people were known for their moonshine stills…it is thought by many historians that those very stills were the reason the South lost the war…

Either way the guy is a cutie pie…or at least that is what the WalMart women call him…;)
