Morning Buzz: Car or spaceship?

A cool car made by some students at the University of Minnesota runs on solar power. This story comes to us from WCCO in Minneapolis. I’ll show you video of the car this morning… and it kind of looks like a spaceship! It’s called “Centaurus,” and the students plan to enter it in this year’s North American Solar Challenge – a 2400 mile race from Dallas to Calgary, Alberta. The race begins on July 13th.

Everyday, many of us are getting more and more fed up with high gas prices. Do you think we’ll see solar cars on the road soon?

If you mean..Do we think the average citizen will be driving around in them soon..the answer is No..

Until “Uncle Sam” can find a way to regulate the sun..they will avoid approving this or any other method that wont allow them to make a fortune off of the public..

Centaurus = 600 pounds of fiberglas..that you cannot remain in longer than six hours at a time...as temperatures in the car can easily climb above 100 degrees Fahrenheit..

This isnt a solution..it is a toy that gives the college geeks that built it a reason to take a university-funded road trip from Texas to Canada..

..and gives the Media a chance to crawl way out on a limb..having people believe that we are about to go into the “Jetson” phase of our existence on this planet..

How much do you think this will cost the average citizen to own and operate?

I dont know if you have noticed it yet..but the only thing that isnt increasing these days....are your wages..smile

I’m sure this car is probably pretty costly, but it’s design may help move us toward a more practical “green” car in the future smile

I have a green truck..it gets about 15 miles per gallon..

I suppose that could be due to the beige stripe at the bottom tho..

Are you suggesting that we have a future?

Hillary aint even going that far out on a limb with her campaigning..smile

If your wages remain the same...yet the cost of everything around you continues to rise..then a process of elimination would occur until you no longer have the means to exist..

Look around you..everyone is now deciding what is and isnt important to them anymore..or changing their way of life to try to fool themselves into thinking that they are still happy..

See Michelle Carolla’s blog..you guys are even doing a story on it today..

Vacation season

“Do you plan to keep your reservations or cancel?
Will you stay a full week or cut down the number of days/nights?
Do you plan to eat at a restaurants each night or cook?
Do you plan on shopping while here?
If you are chaning your plans, is gas the main reason? If not, what is?”

The future seems to be slowing slipping through the cracks..soon we will merely exist..later we wont..

It all seems pretty clear to me...smile

Lyra I think that solar power cars is a crazy idea.It would help the economy but it is not realistic.

I want a vehicle like George Jetson. Either that or a jet pack.
