Morning Buzz: Build your invention

Today’s buzz comes to us from CBS station KPIX in San Francisco, where a report profiles a shop where you just may be able to build your dreams. Many of you may work on building projects in your garage, whether it’s a book shelf or something high-tech. So, Tech Shop in Menlo Park is like one big garage full of tools to help you bring that high-tech invention to life. It’s appropriate that it’s in Silicon Valley, which is known as a place where people come up with big ideas and bring those ideas to life.
The owner, Jim Newton is a former TV graphic artist. His dream was to give inventors and engineers a place to build their dreams. The shop has tools to cut through metal, mold plastics, even shape Styrofoam. The business makes its money by charging a membership.
Would you move your invention from your garage to a place like Tech Shop? If so, what would you build?

The closest one of these to us would be in Durham N.C. ..and a bit pricey for this region..

Membership Prices Will Go Up on 6/1/2008!

Annual $899 Price Increases to $1200 on 6/1/2008

6-Month $499 Price Increases to $650 on 6/1/2008

1-Month $89 Price Increases to $125 on 6/1/2008

Some of their equipment require that you take the TechShop Safety and Basic Usage class for that machine or equipment...These classes cost about $30..and take an hour or two to complete..

Some classes cost as high $60 with a $10 material fee..

About the only thing I invent is excuses to tell my wife...to keep me out of trouble..I dont think Tech Shop will be for me..

Bill C...I’m sure Lyra is as nice as they come..and from my time around her..I saw that they keep her pretty busy..with long crazy hours..

I will have to say..that I didnt say hello to her either...mainly because she scares me..TV makes her look alot nicer than she looks in person..smile

With 3 days remaining in Bike Week..I wouldnt give up tho..TV people do the craziest things sometimes..

I would build a machine to clone my first dog. I credit him with saving my life.
Manfred was a mixed breed, mostly lab.  It was 1968 and I was 7 years old.
Manfred and I went down to the creek bridge to play. You always count on seeing a few small bream swimming about. Summertime, you would see a snake. Usually a cottonmouth and they we’re big and aggressive.  On this particular day, I took my casting net.  I wanted to try to catch some of the bream.  I stood on the creek bank with my faithful companion by my side. I was always mindful of the snakes.  We had seen one smaller one but it was a good distance from us and actually swam away. I continued my casting when all of a sudden, Manfred start barking furiously. It fell from a limb above my head. A huge moccasin and he hit the ground ready to strike.  There was no where for me to go. There was no time for me to think. Then, Manfred did the unthinkable. He lunged between me and the evil that was intent on hurting me.  I watched in horror as he fought for his and my life.  The snake repeatedly struck him time and time again. It was one the most terrifying moments in my life. One I will never forget.  I was able to call Manfred off of the snake.  Obviously, the injuries were serious. I gathered him in my arms and ran as hard as could back to the house. About half way home, Manfred died in my arms. I watched his big brown eyes slowly close as he succumbed to the venom.  I will never forget you buddy. I love you always.

P.S. I made this up. It is Friday.

I know Mookie used to be famous..but as for me..I am but a mere mortal..

Surely you have me confused with someone else..smile
