Money for Nothing?

Have you used the gift cards you received as holiday gifts this year? A study by Consumer Reports showed that in the 2006 holiday season, 56% of people surveyed received gift cards and a year later, 27% of them still had not used them!

According to the Consumer Reports survey more than half of the consumers indicated they didn’t have the time to go shopping. 35% said they didn’t find anything they wanted.

That can cause some problems because some gift cards expire. And, if you don’t think about it for a year… you forget you have it. And that’s “free” money you’re not spending!

So, have you used your gift cards yet? Did I just remind you that you have one? Let’s talk about this today between 5 and 7!

Heck yeah I used them. Broke Folks like myself don’t waste any time. I especially love the Wal Mart gift cards so that I can but milk, bread and such.

I always use mine right away… not necessarily to buy that special gift from Wal-mart that it was intended for, but for instance I would spend that same amount of money at Sears or Best Buy and then use the gift card at Wal-mart to buy groceries or gas for the car.

Did you know that there are various websites including EBAY..where you can swap the gift card you received if you don’t like it..

That’s an all time low for us as decent christians aint it..

I was reading an article recently..saying that the State of Maine is trying to pass a law allowing it to seize 60% of the value of gift cards that have gone unused for 2 years..

The State reasons that the money stays with the retailers..while it could be going into public projects..

I wish South Carolina would do that..and fix those pot-holes between here and the beach..

I have never been given a gift card..I reakon people just dont like me enuff..to equate back to the face value of one of those lil cards..

I bet it feels just like throwing down a “Capital One” card when you get to the register..Man I wish someone would hurry up and give me one..I’d like to experience that..

I can relate to that Nelson..

I almost gave myself a gift card one year..it was a $100.00 Gulf gas gift card..but they wanted like 110 bucks plus tax…and I only had a lil over 15 bucks on me..

I didnt get nothin’ for Christmas that year neither..

Ted..I like WalMart milk too..those would have to be Angus cows to be giving milk that taste that good..

Ya’ll believe that weather woman sat there on TV and said she still hadnt used her gift cards?

..next year she will be like me and not get nothin’ either..especially if the Associated Press decide to run that story…they havent emailed me back yet..

I peeked out the curtain this morning and that snowman is still in my front yard..

I wanna be a weatherman when I grow up…you can be that far off on your forecast and still get gift cards..

I wonder if I’ll ever get that gift card for my neighborhood Chevy or Dodge dealer? That would be nice.

My family has stopped using and giving gift cards. This is due to major problems.  We found the cards had been used already. Seems as if people are going around with their cell phones and copying the number s down then calling the 1-800 number to check the balance on the cards.  Then the people are going online to redeem them to purchase items in the store.

So far we have had 5 that have been this way.

That is a relatively easy hack..even with the number hidden..a cheap hand-held mag-strip scanner would still get you the info you needed from the card..

That would be depressing to not find this out until you were standing at the register..with your Angus milk..and the latest edition of Hot Rod magazine..especially in a WalMart..

I aint sure what they will hold at full capacity..but at any given time..one of those check-out lanes alone will hold a good 47 people..

Man that would be totally embarassing..

That settles it..if I ever get one of those cards.. I’m going out of state to use it..

Nelson…that must be quite a neighborhood you live in..

The closest thing..to our neighborhhod..that you could get a gift card from is Dollar General..

..and it’s a good day and half walk from here..

I’d hate to get a 50 dollar gift card from there tho..it would take 3 pick-up trucks to get that much stuff back home..

They have stuff in there..3 for a nickel..
